Executive Team

The Mackay Sugar Executive Management Team leads the delivery of our corporate strategy and operational objectives. Using their combined experience in a variety of industries, our Management Team demonstrates our organisational values and sets the standard for our company culture. They are an important conduit to our parent company, Nordzucker Group, and are actively involved in several industry and local business bodies as Mackay Sugar representatives.

  • Jannik Olejas

    CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

    Dip. Business Economics, Certificate of Management

    Throughout his career, Jannik has held various senior management roles in both Sales & Marketing and Agriculture and has held positions on several boards, both locally and overseas. Jannik currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Australian Sugar Milling Council, Sugar Australia Pty Ltd and New Zealand Sugar Company Ltd as well as the Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3), which aims to work closely with government and the private sector to create and develop new growth opportunities across multiple sectors.

    During his time in Europe, Jannik worked internationally with clients, suppliers and stakeholders across various senior management roles, including Head of Agri Sourcing for Nordzucker Group, Senior Vice President for Agriculture and Vice President of Industrial Sales and Export with Nordic Sugar, as well as Sales Director and Market Manager with Danisco Sugar.

  • Robin Stinson

    CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

    B. Science, FCCA, GAICD

    Robin was appointed as the Chief Financial Officer in July 2020. He is responsible for Business Services including Financial reporting and analysis, Information Technology and Supply and Procurement.

    Robin and his team ensure that our statutory and contractual obligations are being met. They provide support both internally and externally through financial analysis, maintenance and development of the information technology infrastructure and ensuring a reliable and competitive supply chain. This group also manages the relationship with our financial institutions.

    Robin has over 25 years’ experience working in financial roles within industry in the UK, PNG and Australia. He has joined us from Stahmann Farm Enterprises and has previously worked in the Offshore Logistics, Engineering and Food Manufacturing sectors in his career.

  • Carl Morton

    GENERAL MANAGER OPERATIONS

    Carl joined Mackay Sugar in November 2021 as General Manager Operations. This role is responsible for managing the three Sugar Mills, Asset Management and Cane Supply logistics.

    Having previously held positions in Wilmar, Orica and Norske Skog, Carl has diverse operational experience including Raw Sugar, Bioethanol, Industrial Hazardous Chemicals, Fertiliser as well as Pulp and Paper.

    His proficiency comes from leading Operations, Asset Management, Projects, and Logistics functions which has been gained through working from the ground up to Executive Management roles.

    Carl has qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, Reliability, Business Administration and Lean as well as holding an Advanced Trade Certificate in Fitting and Turning.

  • Carissa Mansfield

    GENERAL MANAGER PEOPLE & CULTURE

    B. Business, MBA, GAICD, Grad. DIp. OHS, GAICD

    Carissa joined Mackay Sugar in 2014 and has held various management roles within the business. Carissa provides strategic leadership and manages the People and Culture, Communications, Health, Safety and Environment teams across all operations including logistics, rail, cogeneration and manufacturing.

    Carissa is a Director of Australian Sugar Milling Council (ASMC) and Mackay Area Productivity Services (MAPS). She is Chair of the ASMC Environmental Committee and a member of the ASMC People and Safety Committee. Carissa is also a member of the Resource Industry Network Safety Committee, the Rural Safety Working Group and sits on the Mackay Regional Council Mayor’s Domestic Violence Taskforce.

    Carissa holds a Bachelor of Business (HR) from Central Queensland University, Graduate Diploma OHS and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the same university. Carissa is also a graduate of Australian Institute of Company Directors.

  • Brent Casey

    GENERAL MANAGER COMMERCIAL & AGRICULTURE

    Brent was appointed GM Commercial and Agriculture in August 2022, having previously held the role of General Manager at QCS since May 2016. He is responsible for the ongoing management of QCS, as well as the cane productivity department of Mackay Sugar. Previously, Brent held the positions of General Manager Marketing at Emerald Grain, General Manager Trading and Marketing at Queensland Sugar Limited, and has held various international management roles within the BP Group.

    Brent has an undergraduate degree in Accounting from Lincoln University in New Zealand, and a Masters Degree in Economics from the same university.

    Brent has extensive leadership and commodity risk management experience, many years of sugar industry knowledge, and significant experience in interacting with growers in the Mackay region. Brent also has strong relationships with international sugar groups and extensive knowledge of the Asian and Middle Eastern commodity markets and customers. He is a director of Mackay Area Productivity Services (MAPS) and chairs the ASMC Trade Committee.

  • Peter Gill

    GENERAL COUNSEL

    Peter was appointed Company Secretary and Legal Counsel on 29 November 2019. He previously undertook the role of General Manager - Commercial and Legal from 16 January 2017, having previously been the Chief Financial Officer since 31 May 2013. Peter returned to Mackay Sugar in August 2012, after acting as General Counsel and Company Secretary for Mackay Sugar Cooperative between 1999 and 2003.

    Peter is a solicitor and is a Fellow of CPA Australia. He was previously employed by McCullough Robertson Solicitors from 1988 -1999 and 2004-2012. During his time at McCullough Robertson and when employed by Mackay Sugar and Mackay Sugar Cooperative, Peter has been closely involved with Mackay Sugar's commercial and legal matters and in particular the establishment of the sugar refining joint ventures, financing arrangements, Cane Supply and Processing Agreements, the Racecourse Cogeneration Project, the acquisition and subsequent disposal of Mossman Mill and the subscription into the Company by Nordzucker AG. He has also been involved in general sugar industry matters from both a legal, commercial and financial perspective.
