Sugar Pavilion a SWEET Attraction at Mackay Show

Mackay Sugar is again hosting the iconic Sugar Pavilion at this year’s Mackay Show and promises the attraction will be bigger and better than ever.

In addition to a broad range of merchandise and giveaways including free fairy floss samples made with locally produced sugar, and the chance to win a one day family Thundercat Adventure pass valued at $645, the Sugar Pavilion will give visitors the chance to explore Mackay’s local sugar industry and discover a new perspective on what it means to live in THE Sugar City.

“Our team has used their local knowledge and networks to lock in some really unique and interesting displays from across the region, which many members of the public may never have even known existed,” said Carissa Mansfield, General Manager People and Culture.

“Without giving too much away, visitors to the Pavilion will have the chance to see some incredible LEGO creations, explore the sugar refinery located at Racecourse mill through a virtual reality experience, and get up close and personal to some privately owned fully restored tractors and machinery from the early days of sugar cane farming in Mackay,” she said.

There’s also plenty in store for the kids, with the Mackay Sugar Kids Station offering free glitter tattoos and DIY craft along with a colouring in competition - offering parents a moment of peace whilst they enjoy a coffee and cake (made using locally produced sugar of course!) from the Country Women’s Association (CWA) stall located within the Sugar Pavilion.

“One of the highlights at the Show in recent years has been the bright red QCS-sponsored passenger train that transports people around the Showgrounds free of charge,” said Mrs Mansfield.

“We’re excited to help make this service available again in 2023 and remind people to get their free ticket to ride by visiting the Sugar Pavilion and getting a stamp from one of our friendly Mackay Sugar volunteers,” she said.
